The creation of new districts in Gilgit-Baltistan is a relatively recent phenomenon. In 2016, the government of Pakistan created two new districts in Baltistan Valley: Ghanche and Kharmang. In 2019, four more districts were created: Darel, Tangir, Gupis-Yasin, and Roundu.
The creation of new districts is seen as a way to improve governance and development in Gilgit-Baltistan. By creating smaller, more manageable units of administration, the government hopes to be able to better address the needs of the local population.
The creation of new districts has also been welcomed by many people in Gilgit-Baltistan. They see it as a way to give their communities a greater say in their own affairs.
However, there have also been some concerns about the creation of new districts. Some people worry that it will lead to increased bureaucracy and corruption. Others worry that it will dilute the cultural identity of the different regions of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Only time will tell whether the creation of new districts in Gilgit-Baltistan will be a success. However, there is no doubt that it is a significant development for this mountainous region.
